Teachers who have a loan from the Federal Perkins Loan Program and serve full-time for a full academic year or its equivalent at an elementary or secondary school may be eligible for loan cancellation benefits if they teach: in a school serving students from low-income families, as a special education teacher, or as a teacher in the fields of mathematics, science, foreign languages, bilingual education, or any other field considered a subject shortage area for their state.
Educators who provide other services directly related to classroom teaching, such as School Librarians, Guidance Counselors, and Speech Pathologists, as well as other types of public and educational service workers, can also qualify for loan cancellation.
