Spanish for Educators Part II

This is a continuation of Spanish 502, a course that will continue to inform educators of proper methods of student and parent communication in Spanish. It will again focus on real life situations, the classroom, and school terminology. It will explore more complex grammatical structures and verb tenses and conjugations. Also, students will analyze the sociolinguistic aspect of the Spanish language to improve their comprehension of cultural differences.

Topics and Objectives

Grammatical Structures and Verb Tenses

  • Demonstrate knowledge of school-related verbs in the present tense and in command forms.
  • Develop reflexive verb structures.
  • Examine question/answer formation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of preterit tense.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of future tense.

Vocabulary

  • Develop knowledge of weather-related terms.
  • Develop knowledge of health care vocabulary.
  • Develop knowledge of playground/sports-related vocabulary.
  • Apply common idiomatic expressions.
  • Develop knowledge of animal-related terms.
  • Develop knowledge of Spanish slang.
  • Develop vocabulary related to planning for the future.

School and Student Information and Activities

  • Utilize test taking vocabulary

  • Create a field trip permission slip.
  • Develop vocabulary and documents related to student information.
  • Create report cards and/or progress reports.
  • Develop documents related to informal communication with parents.

Hispanic Culture

  • Develop an appreciation of Hispanic culture.
