Skills for Lifelong Learning I
Course Description
This course is designed to provide core competencies for adult learners. The course examines learning theory and the application of adult learning principles to communication skills, group processes, and personal management. Adult learners will develop strategies for achieving University of Phoenix Learning Goals in school, work, and personal settings. Students will also be introduced to the University Library and learn how to access resources successfully.
Topics and Objectives
The 21st Century Adult
- Examine motivations, aspirations, and obstacles related to returning to school.
Strategic Learning
- Reflectively analyze course content.
- Evaluate one's own time-management skills, with an aim towards improvement.
- Assess one's own current math skill level.
- Evaluate one's own personality in order to maximize functioning in academic and business environments.
Working in Teams
- Describe themes and patterns of effective teams.
- Reflect on past experiences working in teams.
- Define the term, `learning team'.
- Express the relationship between University of Phoenix Learning Goals and working in teams.
- Establish ground rules for effective Learning Team meetings.
University Resources
- Explore the online resources available to you as a University of Phoenix student.
Ethics
- Explore the ethical perspectives of duty-based, goal-based, rights-based, and human-nature individuals.
- Analyze one's personal ethical perspective.
- Reflect on the ethical differences between individuals and how they might be addressed.
