This course provides an overview of the key components of a holistic, preventative model for health. Learners will explore choices for attaining personal wellness with goals of living longer and better.

The Dimensions of Health

Stress Management

  • Recognize the effects of stress on physical health.
  • Develop stress management techniques that address personal stress triggers.

Nutrition

  • Describe the relationship between nutrition and wellness.

Physical Fitness

  • Analyze components of a sound fitness program.

Harmful Habits

  • Describe choices and habits that impact wellness negatively.

Infectious Disease: Prevention

  • Describe controllable and uncontrollable risk factors for infectious diseases.

Major Acute and Chronic Diseases: Risk Reduction

  • Describe the relationship between acute and chronic diseases.
  • Identify risk factors for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis.

Consumer Issues

  • Discern credible resources, treatment options, and healthcare professionals available to the consumer.
