Course Description

This course encompasses the study of individual and group behavior in organizational settings, with special emphasis on those that are security-oriented. Management methods for organizational processes and change are presented along with leadership applications.

The Field of Organizational Behavior

  • Explore the spectrum of organizational behavior
  • Relate the basics of organizational behavior to security organizations, agencies, and practices
  • Describe the meaning and significance of organizational culture in security-oriented organizations

Understanding and Managing Individual Behavior

  • Discuss individual differences as they relate to work behavior in security environments
  • Identify methods for motivating personnel
  • Describe the special role of "vigilance" and "thoroughness" as desirable characteristics for security personnel
  • Review techniques for evaluating performance, soliciting meaningful feedback, and rewarding individual behavior
  • Examine the principles of job design and relate these to security personnel

Group Behavior and Interpersonal Influence

  • Analyze group behaviors and the impact on work teams
