This course focuses on methodologies for instructing Second Language Learners (SLL). Also, it reviews theories, programs, and instructional strategies that support effective methods for teaching second language learners.

Historical Overview of Programs and Instructional Models
- Review historical approaches for teaching Second Language Learners (SLL).
- Examine research that supports best teaching approaches for SLL students.
Theory to Practice
- Examine second-language acquisition theories.
- Evaluate the relationship between Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) and Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency Skills (CALPS) as they relate to SLL instruction.
- Define multiple intelligences and its relationship/benefits to SLL instructional methods.
Effective Instructional Practices and Appropriate Curriculum
- Describe key components of effective instruction and curriculum for SLL students.
- Identify metacognitive strategies used by SLL students.
- Analyze the relationship between culture and learning styles.
- Compare and contrast effective versus noneffective instructional strategies for SLL students.
