This course is designed to provide students with the evaluation techniques necessary to analyze curriculum, educational resources, and instructional strategies. Students will apply procedures for evaluating and recommending strategies for improving the quality and effectiveness of curriculum and assessment as they relate to instruction.

Overview of Curriculum Evaluation and Assessment

  • Determine the elements of the curriculum to be evaluated.
  • Analyze curriculum evaluation and assessment techniques.

Evaluation of Instruction

  • Compare and contrast instructional and curriculum evaluation.
  • Explain the components of instruction to be evaluated.
  • Analyze strategies for evaluation of instruction.

Assessment and Evaluation of Student Performance

  • Analyze strategies, techniques, and procedures for assessing and evaluating student performance.
  • Compare and contrast evaluation, research, and measurement.

Assessment Effectiveness

  • Examine curriculum-based assessments.
  • Compare and contrast criterion-referenced and norm-referenced assessments.
  • Evaluate teacher-created tests.
  • Examine authentic assessment.
  • Analyze performance-based assessment techniques.
  • Relate assessment to the parent-teacher conference.
