Course Description

This course develops the concept of strategy as applied to the dynamic e-business environment. Students will learn to formulate, implement, and evaluate global e-business solutions. This is the capstone course for the e-business curriculum and integrates strategy and policy formulation, e-business architecture, marketing strategy, and legal and ethical considerations.

Foundation of e-Business Strategy

  • Understand strategy as essential to decision making.
  • Comprehend the strategic management process model.
  • Identify the classical types of strategies and evaluate how they can be applied to the e-business landscape.
  • Assess the issues of taking an enterprise to the Internet (e.g., Do all enterprises create value when they are translated into electronic businesses?).

e-Business Landscape

  • Assess the environmental forces that influence global e-business strategy.
  • Assess the strategic implications of a value chain analysis of e-business.
  • Distinguish the various internal and external analytical tools for conducting an environmental screen.
  • Compare and contrast the essential differences between e-business and traditional business in terms of strategic development.

Strategy Formulation and Choice

  • Create and sustain competitive advantage by leveraging core competencies.
  • Formulate strategy based on input, matching, and decision frameworks.
  • Assess the influence of political and cultural aspects on strategic choice within the e-business enterprise.
  • Evaluate the alternative grand strategies of competitive positioning.

Strategy Selection and Implementation

  • Evaluate management issues and understand methods to effectively implement corporate strategy.
  • Evaluate the alignment between the e-business structure and the strategy of the organization.
