Course Description

In today's global market, e-business can no longer be considered an independent phenomenon from the organization. Instead, e-business permeates all functional areas of the organization and must be considered in all aspects of managerial decision-making and problem solving. This course is the first of a two-part sequence that addresses the critical e-business considerations and emerging trends that general managers face in today's e-business-centric organizational environment. Students will be prepared with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively integrate e-business tools, models, and best practices within various types of organizations.

Topics and Objectives

Strategic Planning and E-Business Organizations

  • Integrate e-business into an organizational strategy.
  • Analyze the risks and opportunities associated with E-Business.
  • Develop an organizational design to support e-business.
  • Identify trends (leadership) and (global) strategies in e-business.

E-business Environment

  • Identify the characteristics of the digital economy.

  • Discern opportunities to create electronic communities.
  • Explain emerging trends in e-business models.

Technology Considerations

  • Distinguish among key languages, protocols, and technologies used in e-business.
  • Evaluate appropriate technologies to meet e-business needs.
  • Create viable plans to manage organizational competencies to respond to changes in technology.

E-Business Security and Privacy

  • Distinguish among key technology alternatives for security and privacy.
  • Evaluate an organization's technology security policies and practices.
  • Discover trends in e-business security and privacy.
