Tired of your students’ eyes just glossing over the pages as they read? This course will enable teachers of all content areas to teach their students how to be better readers. Examine 40 proven strategies that help students develop their vocabularies, comprehend information and narrative texts, and engage in meaningful discussions of what they read. Recommended grades 3-12.
Goals and Objectives: As a result of participation in this course, students will be able to:
- Learn strategies to help students in all subjects and grade levels become better readers.
- Understand the specific skills and knowledge that students need in order to read effectively.
- Describe the role of meta-cognition in the reading process.
- Design activities that incorporate effective reading strategies.
